About Us

Our story in a nutshell…..

About two years ago we went camping with friends to this little campground tucked away in the mountains right on Kootenay lake. The day was coming to an end and I looked out at the lake nestled in between these huge beautiful mountains. I thought to myself that this is only one place out of thousands in BC, millions in Canada and billions in the world. I told myself right then and there that I needed to find a way to world school our children so they could see as many of these little places as they could. Then oddly enough I didn’t really think about it much for the next year and a half. The husband was working as a mechanic Monday to Friday 9-5, we had soccer practices, homeschool classes and everything else to keep us busy and distracted.

We upgraded our house and moved to a much bigger place in a small town outside a big city, and the husband started a new job working 7 days on and 7 days off. But as it turned out I hated living rural and Brian hated living in suburbia so on a whim and as a joke he said “Screw it, lets sell it all and buy a diesel pusher” I said sure and we set forth.

October of 2014 I started googling and researching everything. Where were we going to go? How were we going to make it work? What kind of RV should we buy? Will we need a new tow vehicle? and on and on and on…. Thank goodness for Google.

Shortly after we came up with the plan to get a crew cab truck and buy a 5th wheel, we found out that we were expecting another little bean the following August. So back to the drawing board we went, we now needed to find a 7 passenger vehicle with enough power to pull something that 7 people (and a dog) could live in.

Our original plan was for us to travel the US and Canada and that Brian would keep working but just fly out to meet us wherever we were on his weeks off. But now that we were expecting another baby he was entitled to Parental Leave, so I convinced him to take 4 months off at the beginning of our trip.

Over the next 10 or so months I slowly purged just about everything we had and stored the rest away at our family farm. We paused briefly in August for the birth of our 5th and final instalment, but jumped right back in finding a tenant to rent our house, and making the final move into our trailer.

On September 15th, 2015 we handed the keys to our house over and set forth on the open road to follow dreams, create memories, and (hopefully) have an epic adventure.

We are currently on the road with spotty internet at best so thank you for being patient as the blog is not always up to date.

  1. Hi all! What an inspiration, you guys are truly living the dream. I would love to do what you’re doing with my family. I may be missing something but I can’t find a full back story on your site? I’d love to know what inspired you, how did you plan, did your hubby quit his job, what are the plans for the future…etc etc.

    • Thank you for the kind words. I miss admit I am a bit behind on the blogging and definitely need to update our back story. thank you for the reminder and I will hopefully get to it this week 🙂
