When planning for our trip and mapping out our route, the Devils Tower had been the first big stop on our way.  So we were all so very excited. The drive up was a bit of a tease, every time we came over a hill and got closer to the tower we would look off into the distance to see if we could see it and we never could. It wasn’t until we were only a couple miles away that it came within range.  But when it did the kids went wild with excitement.

We all woke up very eager to go on our ‘first’ real adventure. So far up until now we have been driving pretty well for the past 3 days only stopping to sleep and get groceries. Needless to say the kids also had a lot of pent up energy to burn off. So we set off to the Bighorn National Forest, it was a pretty grey day with some clouds around the tops of the mountains. During our first chaotic week of being in Cochrane I went on the hunt for something fun and local for the kids and I to do. We were doing laundry and I found a few local magazines and brochures. In one of the magazines was this lovely painting and write up about “The Grandfather Tree”. Im a sucker for a good nature walk so I thought it would be perfect and exactly what we would need.  Continue reading →

  1. Put all oils safely on the ground or in a lower cabinet – ours was above our stove, and during transport the cupboard door broke off and the olive oil spilt allllllll over our couch (side note – cornstarch doesnt work in the slightest to help clean up) Continue reading →

Take only pictures, leave only footprints

Life has been a little bit crazy lately. We have been trying to prepare for having a baby, packing and purging in preparation for our big RV trip and just keeping up with everyday life. Everyone seems to be a little on edge lately and it was pretty obvious we all just needed to stop what we were doing and reconnect. So we looked to our summer to do list and decided to go check out Big Hill Springs Provincial Park. I thought it might be fun for the kids to do a little scavenger hunt while we were hiking so I printed them each off a list and equipped them with a camera to take pictures of all the things they would find.

We just got back from our annual trip out to Vancouver Island. Every year we spend the same week at a resort, but usually try to do something new along the way there. This year we rented a house on a little island in the Nanaimo Harbour. We kind of stumbled upon it and didnt really know much about the island before coming here. But the moment we stepped off the little boat we fell in love.

trailer

We finally took the plunge and bought a trailer. Its funny because the floorpan was never on our radar, we went to the dealer to look at a different one, when we got there it had sold and this one had just came in. Its a 2007 Cougar 301 BHS. It has 4 bunks in the back, one slide (couch and dinette) and a queen master bedroom up front.

I love our local science centre so much, and so do the kids. We try to go once a week or every other week. They always have new workshops going on and the staff there are WONDERFUL! Today in the creative kids area (geared toward the 8 and under crowd)  Sylas and Bella worked with the staff to capture shadows. They had an area curtained off in the corner with a bunch of lights, different shapes and charcoal.  The two of them sat there for about half an hour trying out different shapes while the staff was on the floor with them helping them along.
