We were all looking forward to arriving in Tucson and just relaxing. We had plans to just sit by the pool and veg basically for the two weeks over Christmas and New Years. But as you all know this is the year for crazy weird weather all over. So we only spent a few days by the pool, and then quickly ran home for some hot chocolate. Continue reading →

We have been going hard basically since we left Canada so by the time we got to Memphis a couple of the kids were getting the sniffles and were overall just tired. So we did a little more relaxing this week and a little less touring.

We had a very nice relaxing stroll along the Mississippi and a picnic lunch. Continue reading →

DSC_0935After a couple weeks of touch and go weather, today was rather refreshing. The forecast was calling for 23 degrees so we planned a day at the Arbor Day Farm and were far from disappointed. Arbor Day Farm is 260 acres of pure natural beauty. It is a historic landmark in Nebraska City that must not be overlooked if you are ever in the area.  Continue reading →

We were in South Dakota for about 6 days, and they were jam packed as there was so much to see. The first day we went to go check out Mount Rushmore in the morning and The Crazy Horse Memorial in the afternoon.  Mount Rushmore was pretty phenomenal, you see it so much in movies but to actually be standing there staring up at the mountain was something else.

When planning for our trip and mapping out our route, the Devils Tower had been the first big stop on our way.  So we were all so very excited. The drive up was a bit of a tease, every time we came over a hill and got closer to the tower we would look off into the distance to see if we could see it and we never could. It wasn’t until we were only a couple miles away that it came within range.  But when it did the kids went wild with excitement.

During our first chaotic week of being in Cochrane I went on the hunt for something fun and local for the kids and I to do. We were doing laundry and I found a few local magazines and brochures. In one of the magazines was this lovely painting and write up about “The Grandfather Tree”. Im a sucker for a good nature walk so I thought it would be perfect and exactly what we would need.  Continue reading →

I love our local science centre so much, and so do the kids. We try to go once a week or every other week. They always have new workshops going on and the staff there are WONDERFUL! Today in the creative kids area (geared toward the 8 and under crowd)  Sylas and Bella worked with the staff to capture shadows. They had an area curtained off in the corner with a bunch of lights, different shapes and charcoal.  The two of them sat there for about half an hour trying out different shapes while the staff was on the floor with them helping them along. Today I thought I might do a little review of the craft boxes we ordered a month ago. I had never heard of these until very recently and thought we would give them a try. We ordered 2 different kinds, Kiwi Crate and Green Kid Craft. Continue reading →

Today was one of those days that you wish you could replicate over and over again. It’s days like today that I really soak in the love of homeschooling and look forward to having more days like this over the years. It’s hard, trying to homeschool, keep 2 preschoolers occupied, and keep an eye on the insanely curious baby. But today all the cards fell into place and it was wonderful. Continue reading →

Canada, Homeschooling

Sometimes when I stop and think, I have to laugh, we never thought about homeschooling, it was never on our radar. It was a very last minute decision but now that we are 3 years into it I couldn’t imagine it any other way. There are so many things that I love about it and almost nothing I would change about it.
